Are you a young person or student in Nepal looking for ways to make some extra cash?
There are many ways to earn money. Even if you don’t have a full-time job or access to traditional employment opportunities.
In this blog post, we’ll explore some creative ways to make money and achieve financial independence.
From freelance work and starting a business, we’ll cover a range of options that can help you earn some extra income.
But this blog post is different from all the regurgitated articles out there. These are ways that I have used myself to earn money as a young guy.
I started with almost nothing, given the fact that I left my hometown and came to Kathmandu with only Rs. 2000 in my pocket.
But you don’t necessarily have to leave your hometown or start with nothing. Use what you have, all of your resources!
While there ARE numerous ways to save money as a student in Nepal, earning more is where the big bucks is.
So if you’re ready to start earning money as a student in Nepal and building your financial future, read on!
Blogging can be a great way for young people and students in Nepal to earn some extra money.
You may be an aspiring writer or interested in sharing your expertise on a particular topic. Blogging helps you reach a wide audience and potentially earn some income.
This blog that you’re reading right now has been a very successful venture of mine.
I previously started multiple blogs in different niches like health, lifestyle, poetry, and academics. But this one really hit the right spot.
This is why it is important to choose a niche that you’re passionate about.
The way I earn from this blog/website is with Google Adsense.
What is Google Adsense?
AdSense is Google’s advertising program that allows bloggers to earn money by displaying targeted ads on their websites. When a visitor clicks on these ads, you earn a small amount of money, known as a “pay-per-click” (PPC) fee.
All you need to do is sign up for an AdSense account, add the AdSense code to your blog, and the ads will automatically be displayed on your website.
If you’re looking to enable Adsense on your website from Nepal, the company sends you a physical mail containing a code for location verification.
You can receive this mail at your local postal office in Nepal. I received mine from the General Post Office in Dillibazar, Kathmandu.
By enabling Adsense on your website or blog, you can earn money every time someone clicks on one of the ads.
Also, you should make sure you’ve chosen the right company to register your domain name and host your website in Nepal.
More about Blogging
There are also more ways you can make money through blogging, such as through sponsored content and affiliate marketing. I will talk about affiliate marketing later.
Remember: always create high-quality, engaging content. If you try to half-ass through this and create crappy content, Google and your readers will see through your shit easily.
This will result in a loss of readers, and earnings.
Note: One of the benefits of earning money through blogging is that it allows you to work on your own terms. You can choose when and where you work, and you have the freedom to write about topics that interest you. It can also be a great way to build your personal brand and establish yourself as an expert in your field. While it may take some time and effort to build up your blog and start earning money, the potential rewards can be well worth it for those who are dedicated and consistent.

Affiliate marketing is another popular way for bloggers and other online content creators to earn money.
Remember, this is step 2 after you already have an up-and-running website with a loyal following.
Affiliate marketing involves promoting products or services from other companies and earning a commission for each sale or lead that is generated through your unique referral link.
However, there are limited affiliate marketing opportunities in Nepal.
One example I have personally earned money from affiliate marketing is by promoting a hosting service provider.
If you make a website from this hosting service provider using this link, I will earn a percentage of your total spend on the website.
Luckily, Daraz Nepal has also introduced its affiliate marketing system. However, you will need to have at least 10,000 followers on a social media platform to be eligible to be an affiliate.
I recently got accepted into the Daraz Nepal Affiliate Program. Hopefully, that article will also help you with getting accepted.
If you want another affiliate marketing opportunity, take the example of Grammarly.
You probably already know about Grammarly by now.
Grammarly is a software tool that helps users improve their writing by checking for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. It is available in a free version and a paid premium version with additional features and functionality.
Grammarly offers an affiliate program that allows users to earn money by promoting Grammarly products and services.
If you can get your friends to use the FREE version of Grammarly, you will earn $0.20 on each signup.
Pretty cool, isn’t it?
Note: One of the benefits of affiliate marketing is that it allows you to earn passive income. Once you’ve set up your referral links and promoted the products or services you are affiliated with, you can continue to earn money for each sale or lead that is generated, even while you’re not actively working. It can also be a great way to monetize a blog or website that is focused on a particular niche, as you can promote products or services that are relevant to your audience.
Starting a print-on-demand business can be a great way for young people and students in Nepal to earn some extra money.
With a print-on-demand business, you design and create your own products, such as t-shirts, mugs, or phone cases, and use a printing company to print designs on the products on your behalf.
This means you don’t have to worry about upfront costs or inventory management, as you can only print the apparel or products after you get orders.
I have been running a print-on-demand on the sideline, with the name @wosa.official.
I started with two of my friends, but they left the business because of their time constrictions. So, I have been handling the business myself and it has been growing well.
As of date, I have printed and delivered t-shirts and hoodies to individuals from Instagram.
Furthermore, bulk orders from reputed gyms and fight clubs in Kathmandu have contributed a bigger chunk of my revenue.
There are several steps involved in starting a print-on-demand business.
First, you’ll need to choose a niche and decide what types of products you want to create. I have chosen clothing only at the moment.
Next, you’ll need to design the products and create listings for them on a website or marketplace, such as Instagram or Facebook. TikTok is also a powerful platform for starters to sell these products in Nepal.
Note that I have been creating the designs myself using Illustrator, so the upfront cost of business has been low.
You’ll also need to choose a print-on-demand company to work with. I do not own a printing machine myself.
You can simply look for a printing company near your place, and negotiate a wholesale printing rate with them.
Remember, the lower your printing cost is, the higher your profit margin will be.

Marketing your Print-on-Demand Business
Once your business is up and running, you’ll need to market your products and drive traffic to your page in order to make sales.
As of now, I have boosted ads on Instagram and tried to gain customers from Tiktok.
One thing I want to mention from my personal experience is the importance of word-of-mouth.
Most bulk orders I have received were possible because my previous customers referred my printing business to their mutual friends.
Be kind and compassionate to your customers, you never know who will refer your business to a big order.
Listen to their complaints, and give discounts on some orders. Remember, it’s a long-term game, and you will profit in the long run even if you cut your rates for them in a single order.
While it may take some time and effort to get your business off the ground, a print-on-demand business can be a flexible and potentially lucrative way for young people and students in Nepal to earn money.
Freelance earning opportunities for students in Nepal
Freelancing can also be an excellent way for young people and students in Nepal to earn some extra money on the side.
As a freelancer, you can offer your skills and services to clients on a project-by-project basis, rather than working a traditional full-time job.
This can be a flexible and convenient way to earn money, as you can choose when and how much you work.
There are many different types of freelancing work available in Nepal, ranging from creative services such as writing, design, and photography, to technical skills such as programming and social media management.
As I have always loved writing, when I first came to Kathmandu, I did freelance writing apart from my full-time job (I’ll explain about this full-time job later.)
I did freelance writing for a wide range of companies: from celebrity gossip websites to hospital websites in Kathmandu.
Some paid very less – I have earned as low as Rs. 200 per blog post of 1,000 or more words.
But I have also been paid handsomely – at one time, I had a client who paid me Rs. 5,000 per blog post. This is because their website had no content when I started, and my blogs made them appear at the top of search results.
This meant they got more readers and clients.
Lesson learned: if you can earn money for other people, you will earn money for yourself too.
How to find freelancing opportunities?
Now, if you’re stressed about where to find freelancing opportunities, let me tell you that I also did not know everything when I started.
One freelancing gig led to another, and that led to another better opportunity.
Also, if you’re brave enough, I suggest you identify your skill and approach companies in the same niche.
Ask if they can let you work on their project. Research how you can add value to them, and they will pay.
There’s one thing I have learned in my journey: unsuccessful people complain about a lack of opportunities. The successful create them.
Note: Freelancing can be a competitive field, so it’s important to continuously improve your skills and build up a strong portfolio in order to attract new clients and keep your business growing. With dedication and hard work, freelancing can be a rewarding way for young people and students in Nepal to earn money on their own terms.
Part-time or Full-time Jobs to earn money as a student in Nepal
Working a part-time or full-time job has always been a reliable and traditional way for students in Nepal to earn some extra money.
Many Nepalese students work these jobs to fund their education fees and earn some extra pocket money for themselves.
I have immense respect for these people. These are the ones that refuse to quit and are willing to use every opportunity they have and try to turn their life around.
You may think that it is impossible to do a job as a student. But think twice.
My college time was in the morning, and I had a full-time job as a media officer at a reputed news portal in Nepal.
But let me warn you: this job wasn’t spoon-fed to me. It did not come to me easily.
I first started working as a content writer at a company in Kathmandu. The pay was low, but it gave me access to contacts.
These contacts connected me with more freelancing opportunities, and they encouraged me to apply for a better-paying job as a media officer at the said company.
Let me be honest with you: doing a part-time job, let alone a full-time job, as a student is not for the weak-hearted.
Oftentimes, I had no time to eat lunch, and I was always in a hurry.
I had to sacrifice and reach the office on time when my classmates were roaming around and having fun after class.
But it all comes down to priorities: do you want to chill now and keep working all your life, or do you want to sacrifice and look for more ways to be financially free?
How to look for jobs?
If you do not have a core skill (like writing, for me), there are many different types of part-time and full-time jobs available, ranging from retail and customer service positions to administrative and technical roles.
To find a job, you can search online job boards, attend job fairs and networking events, or reach out to local businesses in your area.
It’s important to carefully tailor your resume and cover letter to the specific job you’re applying for and to be proactive in your job search.
Most youths in Nepal freak out at the thought of creating a resume or appearing in a job interview.
The resume really doesn’t have to be perfect. Show who you are, and what skills you have, and do not stress about the format of the resume. Most often, I have used resume templates provided by Google Docs or improvised one myself.
Companies in Nepal do not really care.
And about the job interview, do not think that the interviewer is your enemy, and they want to prove you wrong or embarrass you in the meeting.
Look from their perspective: they also badly want someone to do their job, and most often, they are not looking for the perfect candidate.
Take job interviews like a conversation to know each other’s expectations. It is not merely a stage for you to glitter forcefully.
With a bit of effort and determination, you can find a part-time or full-time job that fits your skills and schedule and helps you earn some extra money.
Earning from Instagram
There are several ways to monetize your Instagram account, such as becoming an influencer and partnering with brands, selling products or services directly through Instagram, or using Instagram to drive traffic to a separate website or online store.
For example, a girl by the name of Grace Bhattarai has been very popular in Instagram for her collaborations.
She isn’t a big name celebrity, neither has she appeared in any movies or programs.
However, because she’s gained followers on Tiktok and Instagram, many apparel brands have collaborated with her to promote their outfits and merchandise.
I messaged her from my page, and let me tell you that she earns very well from a single post (amount undisclosed to protect her privacy.)
Remember, one of the key ways to earn money with Instagram is to build a large and engaged following.
This can be done by posting high-quality content that resonates with your audience, using relevant hashtags, and interacting with your followers.
My personal Instagram journey
I have been managing a self-started page @nepsetrader on Instagram. Started with 0 followers, and the 6,000 followers I have gained now are completely organic.
Note that I have never boosted a promotion ad till now.
While this page certainly has lucrative long-term benefits, I have been able to do two things till now.
First, I have promoted this very blog on the Instagram. This has raised my website traffic and hence helped my AdSense earnings.
Second, I recently bought the book Trading in the Zone in bulk. I got it at wholesale rates, and because I genuinely love the book, it wasn’t difficult for me to make a “sales post.”
Many followers gave their orders, and this became a quick way to earn some extra cash.
The bottom line: after you have a following on any platform, there are infinite ways to earn money from it.
Partnering with brands can also be a great way to earn money on Instagram, as long as the products or services you are promoting align with your personal brand and the interests of your followers.
Alternatively, you can sell products or services directly through Instagram by setting up a business account and using features like Instagram Shopping or Instagram Checkout.
Remember that my Print-on-Demand business wosa.official also heavily relies on Instagram.
It’s important to keep in mind that building a successful Instagram account and earning money through the platform may take time and effort, but it can be a rewarding and flexible way to earn income.
Investing in IPOs
Earning money by investing in initial public offerings (IPOs) can be a potential option for young people and students in Nepal who are looking to enter the world of investing.
When a company goes public and offers its stock for sale to the public for the first time, the value of its stock may increase due to increased liquidity and investor demand.
In the Nepalese context, it is almost certain that the price of the stock will go up from the price at which you bought the IPO.
After the value of the stock increases after the IPO, investors who purchased shares during the IPO can potentially earn a profit by selling their shares at a higher price.
This whole website has been dedicated to helping newbies enter the investing world of NEPSE from IPOs and secondary market shares.
Nepal Stock Exchange, NEPSE for short, is the one and only stock exchange in Nepal.
Investing in company stocks via NEPSE
Earning money by investing in the share market in Nepal is a way to potentially grow your wealth by buying and holding shares of publicly traded companies.
When a company performs well and its stock value increases, investors who own shares of the company can sell their shares for a profit.
There are many ways to invest in the stock market in Nepal, such as through IPOs, individual stocks, mutual funds, and SIPs.
However, note that investing in the secondary market is the second step after you’ve made a footing in the IPO market.
Unlike investing in an IPO, investing in shares of companies already listed in NEPSE comes with a risk.
Unless you learn a proper stock investing strategy, you will be basically gambling with your money.
I want you to earn more money as a youth or student and multiply it with the stock market, not lose it.
Here are some helpful articles I have written for you to establish a proper footing in the stock market:
Other equally valid ways (that I haven’t tried personally)
There are many ways for young people to earn money and gain valuable experience.
While some popular options may include working part-time or freelance jobs, starting a business, or investing in the stock market, there are also many other valid options to consider.
Below you’ll find other equally lucrative ways to earn money that I haven’t personally tries.
These are just a few examples, and the possibilities are almost endless.
It’s important for young people to consider their own strengths, interests, and goals when choosing how to earn money.
Earning from Tiktok
It is time to shift from being a consumer and start being a creator.
All your childhood and youth, you have been a consumer of online platforms.
You have maintained streaks on Snapchat, you have obsessively binged on series on Netflix, and of course scrolled your fingers sore on Tiktok and Instagram.
But stop and think for a moment – who are these people who create content on these platforms.
Do they earn any money for engaging people on these platforms?
Earning money from TikTok can be a great option for young people and students who are looking for flexible, online work.
The platform offers a few different opportunities for users to monetize their content, such as through sponsored content and driving traffic to a separate website or online store.
One of the key ways to earn money from TikTok is to create engaging and entertaining content that resonates with your audience and leads to more views and followers.
It’s also important to make sure your account is set up as a creator account, which will allow you to access features like live donations and monetization options.
You may not know this, but Nepalese creators are earning very well from TikTok clips and live videos that you think are cringy.
Bitter people judge and grown, but proactive people create and benefit from their content.
One day you love a creator and next day you hate them. Both days, they get paid.
For those who are able to successfully monetize their content on the platform, it can be a rewarding and flexible way to earn income.
Earning money from YouTube is a possibility for Nepalese young people and students.
Many have actually been doing so.
There are a few different ways to do this, such as through sponsored content, in which brands pay users to create and post content promoting their products or services.
YouTube users can also earn money by using the platform to drive traffic to a separate website or online store, where they can sell products or services.
Additionally, YouTube users can monetize their videos through advertisements, with a percentage of the revenue generated from the ads going to the creator.
I have personally started a handful of Youtube channels.
But I haven’t been consistent with my efforts, and none of them have been monetized as of now.
One of the key ways to earn money from YouTube as a Nepalese young person or student is to create high-quality, engaging, and entertaining content that resonates with your audience and leads to more views and subscribers.
It’s also important to make sure your account is set up as a YouTube Partner, which will allow you to access monetization options and other features.
Here’s the important part: choosing the right niche for your Youtube videos.
Do you want to go into your fitness journey, or do you want to upload fun vlogs about your lifestyle?
Do you want to have a reaction video on your channel, or do you want to create something original?
All of them work, it is only a matter of your interest.
Choosing a niche for your YouTube content is important because it helps you to define your target audience, create specialized and valuable content, stand out in a crowded market, grow your following, and monetize your content.
A niche can also make it easier to use relevant keywords and tags, collaborate and network with other creators, and identify opportunities for sponsored content and partnerships that align with your personal brand and the interests of your audience.
Overall, choosing a niche can help you to create focused, high-quality content and build a successful and sustainable YouTube channel.
Investing in FOREX
Earning money through foreign exchange (FOREX) trading is a possibility for Nepalese young people and students who are interested in the financial markets and have some knowledge of trading and investing.
First things first, FOREX trading isn’t legal in Nepal.
However, I consulted with a few professionals and found out that the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) is working to legalize the sector in a few years.
Maybe this is why there are many young people and veterans who have been trading FOREX, and also why SEBON has been lenient to take legal action against them.
Having said this, I want to warn you that you ener this sector at your own discretion. I don’t trade FOREX and I do not endorse it either.
FOREX trading involves buying and selling currencies in the global foreign exchange market with the goal of profiting from changes in exchange rates.
To start earning money through FOREX trading, it’s important to familiarize yourself with the basics of the market, such as how exchange rates are determined and how to analyze market trends.
It’s a whole different ball game compared to investing in NEPSE.
This is why, it’s also essential to learn about risk management and to develop a trading plan that outlines your strategy and goals.
It’s worth noting that FOREX trading carries inherent risks and can be highly volatile, so it’s important to educate yourself, carefully consider the risks, and start with a small amount of capital.
Event Management: A lucrative income source for Nepalese students
Earning money through event management can be a great option for Nepalese young people and students who are organized, creative, and have an interest in planning and coordinating events.
Event management involves organizing and managing events of all sizes, such as weddings, corporate events, festivals, and more.
A few years ago, I interviewed my friend living in Kathmandu who was earning some good extra money with event management.
His team was responsible for choosing locations, dealing with logistics, or ensuring participants, for instance.
To start earning money through event management, it’s important to gain experience and build a portfolio of events that you have planned and executed successfully.
This can be done by volunteering or interning at event planning organizations or by starting your own event planning business or freelancing as an event planner.
It’s also a good idea to develop your skills in areas such as budgeting, marketing, and customer service, as these are all essential for success in event management.
Earning money with photography can be a great option for Nepalese young people and students who have a passion for photography and are looking for flexible, creative work.
There are many ways to monetize your photography skills, such as by selling your photos online through stock photography websites, starting a photography business or freelancing as a photographer, or selling physical prints of your photos.
Nepal is a place of natural beauty and historical, cultural monuments. If you can manage to sell photos of these places on stock photography websites, you can earn consistently.
There are many stock photography websites where amateur photographers from Nepal can sell their photos online.
Here are the names of some popular stock photography websites:
- Adobe Stock
- Getty Images
To start earning money with photography, it’s important to develop your skills and build a strong portfolio of your work.
This can be done by taking classes or workshops, practicing regularly, and experimenting with different styles and techniques.
It’s also a good idea to create a website or online portfolio to showcase your work and make it easy for potential clients or customers to contact you.
In addition, networking with other photographers and industry professionals can help you to build connections and find opportunities for paid work.
With dedication and hard work, earning money with photography can be a rewarding and fulfilling way for Nepalese young people and students to utilize their creativity and passion.
Odd Jobs to make extra money as a student in Nepal
Doing odd jobs can be a simple and flexible way for young people and students in Nepal to earn some extra cash.
Odd jobs are typically one-time or infrequent tasks that people need help with, such as cleaning, moving, or yard work.
These types of jobs are often paid by the hour and can be a great way to earn some extra money on the side.
However, I should note that it isn’t common for young people in Nepal to get these odd jobs.
Nonetheless, you may get some part-time jobs at cafes and restaurants.
We think there are few of these odd-job opportunities, but we never look around.
To find odd jobs, you can ask friends and family if they know of anyone who needs help with a particular task.
You can also check classified websites or local community boards for people looking for help with odd jobs.
You can also consider offering your services to neighbors or local businesses in your area.
Odd jobs can be a great way to earn some extra money on a flexible schedule, and they can also be a good opportunity to gain experience and build up your resume.
With a bit of effort and determination, you can find plenty of odd jobs to help you earn some extra cash.
